Robin's travel schedule is a busy one, reflecting his growing popularity as a teacher and tango DJ. Recently, he has taught in Portland, Denver, Ann Arbor, Washington DC, Seattle, Berlin, Edinburgh, San Diego, Providence, Pittsburgh and at the universities, Yale, Princeton, and Cornell.
When he is not traveling, Robin stays busy in his hometown of New York City teaching 3 group classes per week at Empire Dance Studio. On the rare occasion that he is neither teaching or DJing, Robin can always be seen on the dance floor, either working to expand his own understanding of Argentine tango, or simply enjoying the connection he works so hard to share with others.

Trio Folias combines Avik Basu, Andrew Bergeron, and Carmen Maret, all with expertise in Argentine tango music performance and Argentine social tango dance instruction. In addition to founding and teaching tango in the Grand Rapids Tango Community, Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron of Folias flute and guitar duo have performed live social tango music throughout the United States for the past four years. They join with Avik Basu who is a key organizer and teacher in the Ann Arbor tango community, which has developed into one of the most vibrant tango scenes in the country.
The Columbus Argentine Tango Society at OSU is proud to be the first stop on Trio Folias' Summer 2007 U.S. Tango Tour. For more information about Trio Folias, see www.foliasmusic.com.
Avik Basu specializes in teaching social tango emphasizing connection, musicality, and navigation all of which inspire improvisation. His instruction has helped to develop the Ann Arbor community of Argentine Tango dancers, one of the largest social tango communities in North America.
Avik's classes are designed to help you enjoy the process of finding your own tango while respecting the traditions of this century old dance. In addition to his regular classes in Ann Arbor, he has also been a featured instructor in Denver, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Urbana-Champaign, New York, San Diego, and Mumbai, India. Despite his experience, he continues to have a vivid memory of what it was like to start learning this dance and this aids his teaching in a profound way. More than anything else, his wish is to infect students with his passion for this dance.
Many talented teachers have helped Avik in his tango quest including Cacho Dante, Robert Hauk, Alex Krebs, Hsueh-Tze Lee, Susana Miller, Christopher Nassopoulos & Caroline Peattie, Tom Stermitz, Robin Thomas, and Brigitta Winkler. And in great measure, Avik has been guided by his experiences with his many talented students.
