About Ney and Jennifer:

Ney Melo and Jennifer Bratt dance an elegant style of social tango which is rooted in the traditions of the neighborhood of Villa Urquiza in Buenos Aires. Their style is defined by a smooth and graceful walk, a powerful sense of musicality, a mix of subtle and intricate steps, precision of movement and an intimate embrace. Their passion and respect for tango, its culture, and its music is clearly evidenced in their emotional dancing, as well as in their teaching. Ney and Jennifer have studied together with such maestros as Javier Rodriguez, Jorge Dispari y Maria del Carmen, Geraldine Rojas, and Julio Balmaceda y Corina de la Rosa.

Their school of Tango Argentino, EL ABRAZO (which means The Embrace), is based in New York City at Empire Dance Studio and in their classes together they are dedicated to inspiring students to dance tango with feeling, musicality, cadencia, and connection - the way it is danced in Buenos Aires. The atmosphere in their classes is relaxed, personable and lively, and they place equal emphasis on the lady's role as the man's. Technique and the essence of tango, both fundamental to dancing well, are stressed in whatever step is being shown. Ney and Jennifer have recently taught and performed in Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia, as well as extensively all over North America.

The Columbus Argentine Tango Society (CATS) at OSU is a non-profit organization. We are dedicated to promoting Argentine tango as a social dance. Through the generous support of Ohio State University, we are able to offer lessons and events at very affordable prices. Our members include students, faculty, and staff of OSU, as well as residents of Columbus and nearby areas. Very Early Registration (postmarked on or before April 1, 2006):
• Workshop Pass (four workshops): $30 (student) / $40 (non-student)
• Beginner Special (the two All Levels workshops): $15 (student) / $20 (non-student)

Early Registration (postmarked on or before April 15, 2006):
• Workshop Pass (four workshops): $35 (student) / $50 (non-student)
• Beginner Special (the two All Levels workshops): $20 (student) / $25 (non-student)

Late Registration (postmarked after April 15, 2006, or at the door):
• Workshop Pass (four workshops): $40 (student) / $55 (non-student)
• Beginner Special (the All Levels workshops): $25 (student) / $30 (non-student)

A La Carte:
• One day of workshops: $25 (student) / $35 (non-student)
• Single workshop: $15 (student) / $25 (non-student)

Milongas (not included in workshop prices):
• Friday Milonga: $3 (students) / $5 (non-students)

Private Lessons:

Ney and Jennifer will be available for private lessons on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, separately as well as together. Lessons will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. Email info@tangocats.com to schedule a lesson. Please indicate any scheduling preferences.

Accommodations:

Some housing will be available with local dancers. Email housing@tangocats.com with housing requests. Availability is limited, so please contact us soon! Locals who host out-of-town dancers may receive a discount on workshops/lessons: contact housing@tangocats.com to volunteer, and for more details.

As a general guideline, any hotel or bed-and-breakfast that is close to campus or downtown will make it easy for you to reach both the workshop locations (campus) and the milongas (downtown, in the Short North/Victorian Village area). Click here to see a partial list of hotels we have compiled for our workshop participants.

Location and Directions:

The workshops and practicas on both Saturday and Sunday will take place in the Memorial Room of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. [map, in Columbus, on the Ohio State University campus.

Alphastate Studio is located at 433 W. 3rd Ave. [map] in Victorian Village, adjacent to the Short North, and one mile south of the Ohio State University campus.

Emack & Bolio's cafe and ice cream shop is located at 945 N. High St. [map] in the Short North neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio.

The Agricultural Administration Building is located at 2120 Fyffe Road [map], on the Ohio State University campus, near OH-315 and Lane Avenue.
