Argentine Tango:
Beginner Series
Prerequisite: NONE!
No partner required!
Cost for entire lesson series: $10 (student) / $15 (non-student);
drop-in class $3/ $5.
Argentine tango is danced in a spectrum of personal styles, in a range of
embraces from close (with the couple joined at the upper torso during the
dance) to open (where the couple's torsos are not attached). Choosing a
style and embrace at any given moment is a matter of personal preference.
When floor space is ample, a couple can dance open-embrace while still
maintaining respect for the floor and the couples around them; when the floor
is crowded, more couples will dance in a close-embrace.
The Columbus Argentine Tango Society
(CATS) currently
offers beginner classes. Upon completion of this series, students often re-take the Beginner Series to
refine their dance and/or take the Advanced
Beginner Series.
Comfortable shoes that won't fall off (no flip-flops) and won't grip
the floor (no running shoes) are
recommended.
Students are encouraged to stay after the lesson and dance during the
FREE supervised practica. The practica is a good opportunity to
meet more advanced dancers, work
on your dance skills, and get help from/give help to others.
Please see the schedule for the latest
information on lessons and other events.
