Argentine Tango:
Advanced Beginner Series
Prerequisite: Beginner series,
or permission of instructor.
No partner required!
Cost for entire month-long series: $10 (student) /$15 (non-student); drop-in class $3 /$5.
The Columbus Argentine Tango Society
(CATS) currently
offers one advanced beginner class. Upon completion of this series, students often re-take the
Advanced Beginner Series (there is a lot of advanced beginner material!) and/or take the Intermediate Series. (For some good information on shoes, etiquette, music, history, etc., here is a nice Beginner's Guide.)
We will build on the foundations taught
in the beginner series. We will introduce more challenging
elements and concepts (e.g. salidas, turns, ocho cortados), always emphasizing the
connection between the leader
and the follower, musicality, proper technique, and navigation.
We will practice reassembling the new and old pieces of tango vocabulary
into new improvised combinations for the social dance floor.
Throughout, leaders and
followers will be encouraged to be active and equal participants in the
creation of the dance.
Students are encouraged to stay after the lesson and dance during the
FREE supervised practica (typically from 9:00-10:30pm). The practica is a
good opportunity to work on your dance skills and get help from/give help
to others.
Please see the schedule for the latest
information on lessons and other events.
